Some might, depends on how strict your school is.

Mine doesn't, because it's teacher assigned, so the office/principle/VP/etc., doesn't get involved.

But I see no reason for a letter to be sent home just because of a stupid detention.

If you're concerned about something being sent home thru the mail, check the mail and get everything out for the next few days. Say that You're doing it because your moms gonna be going into surgery and you don't want any type of stress or pressure or something of that nature.

Hope I could help.Do highschools send a letter to inform a parent that there student has gotten detention?
the school I coach cheering at usually sends a paper home with the student the day the received detention to be signed because they have to tell parents they are keeping child after school the next day for safety reasons....if they did not send you home with a paper to be signed they will most likely call the tomorrow and let her know just ttell her she will laugh and be like I have been there and done that don't do it again.
Sorry to hear about your mom's health

I assume it is an after school detention? At my school the parent is required to sign the detention slip. They don't send a letter home.

A couple of times they will phone up the parent afterwards just to check that the knew their daughter was in detention (actually happended to me)
Usually for a single detention, a school doesn't bother with letters home.
im pretty sure they dont but if you get them repeatedly i think they might call home. Home your mom has a good safe surgery.
Usually not my man they could care less
