Texas rules are simple enough. Parent taught, or driving school, either one works. Then, per the web page:

In order to obtain an unrestricted driver license, the following documents must be presented upon returning to the Driver License Office.

Valid Instruction Permit (minimum age 16 and held a VALID Instruction Permit for a 6 month period)Do you still have to wait to 6 months to get your license even if under the Parent Taught Driver Education?
If you mean 6 months from the time that you obtain your learners permit, the answer is yes, you have to wait.

You're supposed to be doing the lessons and driving practice during that time.
